Anne in Berlin - 29 October 2008

Today is 6 degrees or something (I haven’t been outside) which suits me. It’s raining. I’ve decided to wash the one pair of pants I have with me which will really restrict my movement for the next couple of days. The washing machine in the kitchen is on the spin cycle for about the eighth time. I can’t work it out. It just goes around and around and around. There are a series of letters on the dial from A through to about H. I don’t know what any of them is referring to. I rushed over there a minute ago because I thought it was finished but no, it was filling with water again. Here we go again …wheeeeeeeee.

We bought bikes at the flea market near our house on Sunday. We got two for 40 euros. Jack bought his from an aggressive skin head and I bought mine from a man with two clubbed hands. After I’d bargained my guy down 10 euros, Jack and I rode around Berlin for hours. It’s a very bike-friendly place. There are lifts you can put them on to get in and out of the stations and you can take them on all trains. We went to the woods outside Berlin and rode around on Tuesday. It was a great day. I love the autumn colours.

Jack has just rushed in screaming ‘Quick! Open it!’ because the washing machine has paused briefly. Sadly, another false alarm. I can hear it filling up again.
